Allow Me to Re-Introduce Myself

Wow. I can’t believe I am finally relaunching my blog. Trust me, it has been a long time coming. For many of you, this is your first time visiting my blog of any kind, but for some of you, you were here from the beginning when My Thrifted Closet (MTC) first began. I launched MTC in April 2011. At that time, I was newly natural and just began thrifting a month prior. Most importantly, however, I was a 19-year-old Black, fat (maybe you prefer the term plus-size) island girl at a Top 30 white, private institution in the South. You can imagine how isolated I felt. Hardly anyone looked like me (size, race, or fashion wise) so I turned to the internet from the suggestion of my favorite girl Chakayla, where I was greeted by women all across the world SLAYYINGGGG (a term I didn’t use back then) and sharing their style. I wanted to share my journey too and that’s how MTC began. It quickly became a platform for looking bomb (also a term I didn’t use) on a budget. I blogged fairly consistently for a year, and then the blog basically just died. Instead, I sporadically shared my looks on Instagram, Youtube, and Facebook.

Cut me some slack here. It was really hard to maintain a blog while also trying to maintain a 4.0 at a rigorous university, while also adopting my hair as my pet, while also just dealing with the stressors of everyday life. A lot has happened to me within the last 5-6 years. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a concentration in Media Studies and a double minor in Theatre and Entrepreneurship & Social Enterprise, graduating Summa Cum Laude (the highest honors distinction). I then went on to earn a Master’s degree in Documentary Film where I co-directed and co-produced "Soul City", a film that will air on PBS stations all across the country throughout 2017. I also traveled to 10 countries, FINALLY went to Disney World, hiked a volcano, and frolicked in a large waterfall. Y'all, I transformed from a kid into a woman, while also transforming MTC from a mere hobby, to a brand.

So that’s why I’m here, to bring it full circle with where it all began. And I must say, it feels so damn good. I have to so much to say and for the longest time, I didn’t have the medium to say it all. And now, I do *twerks*. This blog will be a space to share it all: my successes, failures, style, lifestyle (travel, food, that good ish), beauty (hair, makeup, all dat stuff), but most importantly, I am going to share me and I am SO excited. I hope you are equally excited to take this crazy ride with me. I promise you, it will be fun!
